Green Supply Chain

The main focus of Green Supply Chain Consulting is to help clients transform their setup to become more efficient, reduce supply chain carbon emissions and save costs along the way.

Approach:

The Green Wolf project approach starts with documenting your current setup and defining the scope of the project, followed by establishing a carbon footprint baseline in your supply chain. Then we address strategic emission reductions, and move into more tactical activities in transportation and warehousing. Finally, we can guide you towards a carbon neutral supply chain and provide ongoing support in implementation and carbon calculation.

Strategic considerations:

The greenest shipment is the one you do not have to ship. We provide guidance in shipment avoidance, distance reduction, and the shift to environmentally friendlier transport modes. The analysis includes planning & forecasting, manufacturing & postponement, and manufacturing locations. We can also look at your strategic network design (centralized vs. regional DCs) – and we can support you by calculating emissions effects of various DC location scenarios. This is the opportunity to combine freight cost reduction initiatives with emissions reductions, a great story to tell your clients!

Transportation:

Freight transportation is the area of your supply chain with the highest cost and emissions reduction potential. There are endless possibilities to improve your score on both fronts! Green Wolf will provide you with guidance in the areas of:
  • Transport mode selection and mode shifting
  • Packaging and cube maximization
  • Unproductive distance reduction
  • Supply chain slow down (e.g. change in customer ordering, slow steaming)
  • Mode specific actions (e.g. truck technology & driver behavior)
Most activities in this field will provide you with direct cost savings and quick payback on investments!

Warehousing:

Many opportunities to make your building more sustainable exist today, affecting lighting, heating & cooling, material handling equipment, or water efficient landscaping. However, we also want you to look at employee behavior & motivation, and work on improving the process & space efficiency of your operation. The greenest warehouse space is the one you do not need at all! Many changes can be implemented without having to make huge investments. But should you be motivated to go a step further, we can guide you towards a greener, LEED compatible building as well!

Carbon Calculation:

Through our partnership with Supply Chain Cube, Green Wolf can offer a state-of-the-art tool for the calculation and scenario modeling of supply chain carbon emissions. The tool uses either your own data or can fall back on the accepted standards provided by GLEC (Global Logistics Emissions Council).

All carbon emissions of a supply chain can be modeled in Supply Chain Cube:

Supply Chain Cube is especially helpful in supporting the calculation of scope 3 emissions!

All results in Supply Chain Cube can be displayed in a dashboard-like setup:
